AbstractThis book makes available to a wider audience for the first time material based on fieldwork carried out by the Solomon Island researchers in their own country. The findings will have vital relevance to policy makers, teachers and students. Over the past four years the School of Education, Solomon Islands College of Higher Education and the University of Waikato, have worked together in a partnership focused on enhancing the quality of teacher education and building capability in research. Each chapter is based on research findings from master's and doctoral theses completed by the Solomon Islanders through the University of Waikato. The book is divided into three sections. Section One, Systemic Issues, contains the following chapters: (1) Educational Decentralisation: The Growth of Community High Schools in the Solomon Islands; (2) The Educational and Career Aspirations Solomon Islands' Parents Hold for Their Children; (3) Mi Wanfala Tisa Nao, Bata!: Beginning Secondary Teachers' Professional Learning in the Solomon Islands. Section Two, School Leadership, contains: (4) Effective School Leadership in the Solomon Islands; (5) Highly Effective School Principalship in the Solomon Islands; and (6) Seen But Not Heard: The Educational Leadership Experiences of Women Leaders in Solomon Islands Secondary Schools.
