AbstractIn the present scenario, Indian higher education is expanding in quantity but compromising with quality. Hats off to Yash Pal Committee, which took this matter into account, worked on it and submitted a report (renovation and rejuvenation of higher education in India) on June 24, 2009 to the Human Resource Ministry. Major attributes of Yash Pal Committee Report are establishment of National Commission for Higher education and Research (NCHER), no specialized university should be created, vocational, professional and teacher education should be brought under the purview of universities etc. The study was conducted on a sample of about 100 college teachers in Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Palakkad districts using stratified sampling technique. The sample included teachers from Arts and Science Colleges, Teacher Education Colleges, Professional and Technical Colleges. The recommendations of the committee were divided into five dimensions. The technique used to collect data was personal interview. Teachers had myriads of opinion regarding the recommendation that all universities should have undergraduate programmes and all teachers in university must teach at the undergraduate level, some teachers opine that it will be beneficial to students but the valuable time of teachers in universities for extension works will be lessened. As for the coming of foreign universities to India, some argue that it will affect our culture; it will lead to commercialization and not quality enhancement. To the recommendation of teacher assessment by students, majority approves but they disagree to the notion of shunning of the teacher by the university if the feedback is poor in successive years. Regarding the establishment of NCHER some are doubtful and majority disagrees saying that each statutory body has its own objective so cannot be combined. Teachers agree with majority of the recommendations but regarding NCHER they have some dissatisfaction. (As Provided).
