AbstractThis study investigated the demographic profiles of middle school students receiving either singular school-based mental health services or bundled school-based mental health services in conjunction with school counseling services. Demographic variables collected for this study characterize students attending six intermediate or middle-schools, representing two school districts within one Southeastern state. This study also addressed the need for evidence-based research promoting the collaboration of school counseling services and school-based mental health services as a viable counseling option for students within schools. The data for this study was obtained through a comparative research design. All data regarding student demographic variables analyzed for this study was archival and coded. Data was collected from individual files of subjects enrolled in school-based mental health services through a local mental health agency along with two school district computer based databases known as Shugart Associates Systems Interface (Pearson, 2003). The form of statistical analysis used in this study was the chi-square test for independence. The chi-square was used to determine any possible variation between two different service modalities of eleven variables. The findings of this study revealed that there were no statistically significant differences at the 0.05 level than can be expected by proportion of the population between types of gender, ethnicity, age, grade level, diagnoses, suspensions, socioeconomic status, science grades and social studies grades, math grades, and language arts grades. Implications, limitations and directions for future research were discussed. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
