Abstract | Authoritarian parenting is often shown to be associated with negative outcomes for children, including the development of maladaptive schemas. However, this is not the case for all children who experience Authoritarian parenting. Optimism is examined as a moderator in the relationship between Authoritarian parenting and maladaptive schemas that may account for those individuals who experience Authoritarian parenting but do not develop strong maladaptive schemas. Findings are discussed as they relate to community implications and interventions. One appendix is included: Examples of Items from the Young Schema Questionnaire. (Contains 2 tables and 1 figure.)
