Abstract | The essays in this collection represent the many ways in which the academic world is in flux. The collection suggests guidance for organizations and individual faculty, looks at decision-making structures, offers advice about empowering a faculty, and addresses the responsibilities of the academic in the current educational climate. The essays, which have been previously published, are: (1) A View from the Titanic: Strategic Responsiveness; (2) Terrorism and Academic Freedom; (3) The Responsive Campus: Nine Ways to Weaken Faculty Commitment to the University; (4) Academic Destinies and the Role of the Intellectual; and (5) A Walk in the Olive Grove.
