AbstractThis publication follows the tradition of publishing selected papers from PIALA annual conferences, however, for the first time, two PIALA conferences (PIALA 2004 and PIALA 2005) are published in one volume, containing papers from both events. Both conferences featured papers by local Micronesian and Pacific Islands experts, as well as presenters from throughout the world. The volume begins with the preface, a chronology of PIALA conferences, and acknowledgments. The proceedings of the PIALA 2004 Conference follow, beginning with the Welcoming Remarks of Wilfred I. Kendall, Republic of the Marshall Islands Minister of Education, and then Dealing with Disaster, the Keynote Speech by Karen Peacock. Waan Aelon in Majel (WAM) Building the Marshallese Canoe by Alson Kelen is the next paper and the volume continues with The Information Literacy Program at the University of the South Pacific Library by Ane Teilauea; An Overview of the National Library of Medicine AIDS Community Information Outreach Project by Franda Liu; Marshall Islands Health Information Partnership (HIP) Institute by Sonja Evensen, Franda Liu and Marie Maddison; Republic of the Marshall Islands Historic Preservation Activities by Josepha Maddison-Hill, Frederick Langmoir, Clary Makroro and Frank R.
