Abstract | In 2006, representatives of the New Jersey Department of Education, the New Jersey School Boards Association, and the New Jersey Association of School Administrators, conceived a joint venture aimed at assisting board of education teams, including their superintendents, to function better as cohesive teams and foster improved academic achievement among the school children in their charge. The training proved effective for all involved -- albeit for different reasons. For those for whom it was beneficial, it helped them to get to know each other better, communicate better, improve their interpersonal relations, become collaborative, and begin to increase their mutual trust and respect. For those for whom it was less successful, at least it provided them with an opportunity to identify the factors that influence their dysfunctional nature and toxic climate. (Contains 3 figures and 15 tables.) [This project was supported by funding from the Wallace Foundation.] (Author). |
