Abstract | This book has been written for those who lead and manage continuing professional development (CPD). Continuing professional development co-coordinators hold a key role and one that needs to be developed further in many schools. This book is intended to help people think more deeply about the professional development and training of staff--all staff--in schools. The book is made up of two parts. After an introductory chapter, which examines the notion of continuing professional development, locating it within the wider context of human resource development, Part I, entitled "Professional Development for School Improvement", contains the following chapters: (2) "Learning People ? Learning Schools"; (3) "Leading and Managing CPD"; (4) "Identifying Training and Development Needs"; (5) "Meeting CPD Needs"; (6) "Monitoring and Evaluation: the Impact of CPD"; and (7) "Collaboration and Enquiry: Sharing Practice". Part II of the book--"Leading and Managing the CPD of Specific Groups" contains the following chapters: (8) "Support Staff"; (9) "Initial Teacher Training ? the CPD Needs and Benefits"; (10) "Newly Qualified Teachers and their Induction"; (11) "Supply and Overseas-Trained Teachers"; (12) "Early Professional Development"; (13) "Emergent Leaders and Middle Managers"; (14) "Leadership Development for Heads and Deputies"; and (15) "Governors' Training and Development". The following sections are also included: (1) References; (2) "Author Index"; and (3) "Subject Index". (Contains 18 tables and 38 figures.) (ERIC). |
