Abstract | This laboratory manual introduces the idea of Green Chemistry, which is the design of chemical products and processes that reduce or eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances. Instructional samples are included to help teachers integrate green chemistry into the college chemistry curriculum. Each laboratory includes: (1) a background section that discusses the hazards associated with certain chemicals or chemical processes and the challenges of designing a greener approach to reduce the hazard; (2) pre- and post-laboratory questions that help students familiarize themselves with the procedure and think critically about the relevant chemical concepts and green chemistry topics; and (3) references that allow green chemistry to be explored in greater detail.
