Abstract | This document contains the 9 publications constituting the fourth stage of the Voyager program, which is a four-stage program that utilizes contemporary content and instructional approaches to teach the reading, writing, critical thinking, and communication skills that adults need in today's world and to take adult learners from the beginning stages of reading through the ninth-grade level. The Voyager program combines contemporary content and instructional approaches with traditional instructional practices to help adult learners develop reading, writing, listening, speaking, and thinking skills through theme-based lessons that include opportunities for students to work independently and collaboratively in a variety of settings. The publications included in Stage 4 focus on reading for work and life and emphasize having students learning and apply reading, thinking, writing, and oral communications skills through work-oriented and life-oriented themes and readings. The specific Voyager components included in this document are as follows: (1) a teacher's resource guide; (2) Level 7 and 8 student books (featuring lessons on getting ahead, hard times, comparing past and present, taking chances, the working experience, breaking new ground, resolving conflict, and attitudes toward work); and (3) separate workbooks, puzzle books, and vocabulary workbooks for use with each of the two Level 7 and 8 books.
