| Abstract | Noting that students who learn strategies to make and complete analogies benefit in many ways, the introduction to this workbook for grades three through five defines analogies as comparisons between seemingly unrelated items. It notes that comparing an unfamiliar item to an item that is more familiar increases understanding. In addition, the introduction notes that the key to analogies is the relationship between word pairs, and as a result, students must learn to find similarities between the two pairs. After the introduction, the lessons include exercises on: classifying groups of things; classifying word groups; making word pairs; classifying word pairs; how to make an analogy; classifying analogies; part-whole and kind-of analogies; synonym and antonym analogies; descriptive analogies; completing analogies; recognizing correct analogies; complete the analogy pair; writing analogies; and the analogies game.
