Abstract	The performance of Alaska's State Training and Employment Program (STEP) in fiscal 2000 was evaluated by matching the records of participants of the following STEP subprograms with Alaska and Washington state unemployment insurance (UI) wage records and federal military and federal civilian payroll records. Data were collected for participants of the following groups of STEP programs: (1) adult programs (including one dislocated worker program); (2) programs for adults with barriers (including a training program and a work search program); (3) youth programs; and (4) other programs (Carl Perkins and training and vocational education programs). The performance evaluation established that, in months 7-12 after completing their program, participants in the adult, adults with barriers, and youth programs were employed at rates of 66.4%, 64.3%, and 59.7%, respectively. The median incomes of the same three groups for the 6-month period in question were $10,804, $4,416, and $2,595, respectively. At the time of report, data on training relevance had only been collected for participants in the adult programs. According to information on training placements and employer records, 66.2% of participants in the adult programs were employed in jobs for which their training was directly relevant. A significant number of participants had obtained and completed services from multiple STEP programs. (Contains 43 tables/figures.) (MN)
