Abstract | The Elementary School Proficiency Assessment (ESPA) is the state test taken by students in the fourth and fifth grade. It is designed to give a school information about how well the students are achieving in the areas required by New Jersey's Core Curriculum Content Standards. For 2001, a new subject Social Studies has been added to the ESPA. The ESPA test in Social Studies will always be taken by students in the fall of their fifth-grade year. This information booklet describes the ESPA test; lists who will be tested; explains what types of questions are on the ESPA Social Studies Test; considers how a child can be prepared for the ESPA; reports on how long the 2001 ESPA Social Studies Test is; discusses how fair the ESPA is; and explains how parents can receive more information about the ESPA. The booklet also contains a student section that asks and answers the following questions: "What is the ESPA Social Studies Test?"; "What are the questions like on the ESPA?"; "What should I expect when I take the ESPA Social Studies Test?"; and "What else should I know about taking the ESPA?" Sample questions are included. (Includes the Parent Information section in Spanish.) (BT) |
