Abstract | This report provides an overview and profile of students who transferred from a British Columbia (BC) community college, university-college or institute to a BC university from 1994-1999. Report highlights include: (1) in most cases, students transferred to the BC university closest to their transfered institution; (2) 35% of students entered a BC university with 1-1.5 years of college transfer credits, and 56% transferred more than 1.5 years of transfer credits; (3) approximately 50% of transfer students register full-time in their first semester at a university, compared with 84% of secondary school students who registered full-time in their first semester; (4) on average, transfer students were 23 years old and the majority (58%) were female; (5) transfer students entered BC universities with an average grade of 70% and graduated with average grades only 5% lower than students who entered directly from high school; (6) approximately 60% of transfer students graduate from a BC university within 4 or 5 years, with an expected long-run graduation rate of approximately 70%; and (7) nearly half of all transfer students who graduated complete a degree in the Faculty of Arts and take an average of 2.7 years to complete their degree from the time of transfer.
