Abstract | Through the Internet, students can access information that is generally not available from print sources. Filled with hundreds of Internet learning adventures, this guide can help teachers and students go online to efficiently find the latest and most valuable information about social studies subjects for diverse projects and activities. Part 1: "Social Studies and the Internet," consists of the following chapters: (1) "Introduction"; (2) "The Internet and Instruction"; and (3) "How to Use This Book." Part 2: "Internet Social Studies Units," contains the chapters: (4) "My World"; (5) "Families and Friends"; (6) "Neighborhoods and Communities"; (7) "Communities Here and There"; (8) "Regions Near and Far"; (9) "History of Our Country"; and (10) "Our World: Yesterday and Today." The topical lessons in each chapter contain an introduction, research questions, web sites, literature resources, and activities and projects. The lessons incorporate six key methods: hands-on approach; process orientation; integration; cooperative learning; critical thinking; and authentic assessment. (BT) |
