Abstract | The impetus for writing the history of the College Reading Association (CRA) came from charges given to the historians by President Judy Richardson on November 24, 1995. She took the charges from the "Procedural Practices Manual," which mandate the preparation of a series of 5-year highlights of the CRA. This history begins by stating that the CRA is a "professional, educational, not-for-profit organization devoted to the specific purposes of fostering and promoting directly or indirectly the growth and development of the teaching and learning processes related to reading at all levels." The history then cites its nine specific purposes for the organization. It is then divided into the following sections: The First Five Years--1958-1963; 1963-1968; 1968-1973; 1973-1978; 1978-1983; 1983-1988; 1988-1993; and 1993-1998. (NKA) |
