Abstract | These nine articles deal with basic philosophical questions concerned with the general nature of sloyd or with the educational aspect of sloyd. (Sloyd, derived from a Swedish word, is an umbrella term for making or crafting things by hand.) They report research on cultural questions related to goals and contents, ranging from sociocultural reproduction to the subject's possibilities of giving modern man general technological competence. The articles are as follows: "Craft as Means of Developing the Modern Individual" (Seija Kojonkoski-Rannali); "New Approaches to Craft Research--Educational Address" (Minna Uotila); "Constructing Symbols of Norwegianness: How To Understand the Invisible in the Visible" (Jorunn Spord Borgen); "Rudiments of a Sloyd Pedagogy" (Mikkel Holmback);"Craft and Design (Sloyd)--Sociocultural Reproduction and New Creation" (Marlene Johannsson); "Sloyd Education and Phenomenography" (Mia Porko); "Technology Education in the Perspective of Finnish Sloyd" (Pasi Kankare); "Improving Sloyd through Reflective Practice in Early Childhood Education" (Ari Alamaki); and "Creativity in Cuban Teaching, Educacion Laboral: An Experimental Work" (Lazaro Moreno Herrera).
