Abstract | This report provides state summary tables and district reports of graduation rates, dropout rates, and suspension and expulsion rates in Colorado for 1995-96. Reports for the state's 176 school districts are presented in tabular form for each rate of interest. The graduation rate is a cumulative or longitudinal rate that calculates the number of students who actually graduate as a percent of those who were in membership and could have graduated over a 4-year period. The dropout rate is an annual rate reflecting the percentage of all enrolled students in grades 7 through 12 who leave school in the reporting period and are not known to transfer to other schools. The Colorado graduation rate for the class of 1996 is 77.7%, an increase of 0.3 percentage points from the rate reported for the class of 1995. Thirty-eight percent of all Colorado school districts had a graduation rate of 90% or above. The dropout rate for the 1995-96 school year was 4.0%, an increase of 0.4% from 1994-95. Approximately 29% of the 1994-95 dropouts returned to school the following year. The 1994-95 school year was the first for which suspensions and expulsions were reported in a standard format. In 1995-96, 49,558 students were suspended and 1,873 were expelled. Almost 44% of the suspended students were white males. (Contains 14 tables.) (SLD) |
