Abstract | This tech prep competency profile (TCP), which was developed by a consortium of Ohio educators and business/industry representatives, lists the competencies that have been identified as necessary for employment in the following occupations: nursery technician; golf course superintendent; landscape designer/manager; lawn care specialist; tree care maintenance; floral design/manager; and greenhouse technician. Presented first are the following: overview of the three-part TCP process used to identify the competencies and lists of participants; occupational definitions of the horticulture technologies cluster; and horticulture technologies cluster tech prep competency matrix. Next, the tech prep competencies identified are listed by the following categories: communications literacy; mathematics literacy; science literacy; technology literacy; employability skills; professionalism; teamwork; computer literacy; problem analysis; basic accounting; basic economic and business principles; supervision; workplace safety; horticulture fundamentals; sales and marketing; daily management tasks; plant health care; equipment maintenance; landscape technology; turf and landscape operations; irrigation and drainage; landscape design; drafting technology; arboriculture; landscape construction; Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) fundamentals; golf course operations; turfgrass management for golf courses; nursery operations; floral design; and greenhouse management. Competencies to be developed at the following grade/program levels are included: grade 10, grade 12, associate degree program, worksite training, and lifelong learning. (MN) |
