| Abstract | This book provides insight into how managers of federally sponsored libraries view their roles and carry out their duties. Seven federally supported libraries were selected to serve as case studies. These libraries represent a cross-section of various types, and the nine chapters are written by librarians from these facilities. The discussion includes what actually happens during the course of business, principles of management, and how the managers apply these basic principles to library operations. The chapters are arranged in six parts: (1) Legislative Branch--"United States Senate Library" (Roger K. Haley); (2) Judicial Branch--"Sixth Circuit Library for the United States Courts" (Kathy Joyce Welker); (3) Executive Branch--"Department of Defense: Army Libraries" (Louise Nyce); "The Pentagon Library" (Louise Nyce); "Redstone Scientific Information Center (RSIC)" (Sybil H. Bullock); (4) Independent Agencies--"Research Library of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System" (Ann Roane Clary); (5) National Libraries--"National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped" (Frank Kurt Cylke); "National Library of Medicine" (Kent A.
