Abstract | This document lists the sacred texts of many world religions, in a variety of languages, translations, and versions, that are available in special media. The information provided for the materials includes source, medium, availability, and title. Priority was given to citing complete works; portions are listed only if they are unique in availability, narration, or medium. In Section I, scriptures in English are grouped by religion or denomination. The scriptures include the following religions: Buddhist, Christian Science, Hindu, Jewish, Mormon, Protestant, and Roman Catholic. Section II covers scriptures in foreign languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Italian, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, Telegu, and Urdu. Section III includes hymnals, prayerbooks, and liturgies in the Jewish, Mormon, Protestant, and Roman Catholic religions. Section IV lists commentaries and concordances. The full names and addresses of the sources are found in section V. There is a table of abbreviations and symbols used, as well as a listing of the versions and books of the Bible. Section VI is an addendum to Bibles, other scriptures, liturgies, and hymnals not listed in the 1988 edition. A list of other reference circulars and bibliographies available from the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped is included. (JLB) |
