Abstract | This module is designed for use in the Family Living and Parenthood course and other home economics courses. Using this guide, teachers can help students review and learn daily living skills. Following acknowledgments, a foreword, and a subcompetency list are three units: (1) building self-esteem; (2) managing stress; and (3) handling peer pressure. Each unit contains some or all of the following sections: cross-reference table of instructional materials; unit objective; specific objectives; suggested activities; information sheet; transparency masters; handouts; assignment sheets; answers to assignment sheets; job sheets; unit test; answers to unit test; references; and helpful resources. The subcompetencies covered are as follows: feeling good; individual differences; positive communication skills; setting and achieving goals; self-acceptance; stressors (visible and invisible); stress management techniques; community and school services; stresses in stages of family development; avoiding unnecessary stress; dysfunctional family situations; peer pressure; positive techniques for handling peer pressure; negative consequences of peer pressure; positive consequences of peer pressure; and services and resources for high quality help.
