AbstractEleven tables and five graphs present statistical data concerning the Tests of General Educational Development Program (GED Testing Program) in 1990. Data for each state and Canadian province are included. The tables present data on the following topics: testing volumes (i.e., number of people tested), percentage of people tested by age group, percentage of credentials issued by age group, number of people tested by edition (i.e., audio cassette, Braille, large print), volume of special testing accommodations, highest grade completed by examinees, additional data, credentials issued, comparative testing data, minimum score requirements, and percentage of graduating high school seniors meeting minimum score requirements of the GED Testing Program. The graphs present data on the following topics: volume of people tested versus credentials issued for 1950-90, testing volume and credentials issued by age group for 1990, highest grade completed by examinees for 1990, volume of people tested versus credentials issued for 1972-90, and number of GED candidates planning further study. The number of persons taking the GED Tests in 1990 increased to 763,618, which represents a 12% increase over the number for 1989. Forty-five states reported greater participation in the GED Testing Program. Seventy percent of the candidates who completed all five GED Tests in 1990 earned passing scores, compared to 68% in 1989. A dramatic increase of 46% occurred in the number of disabled persons who qualified for special testing accommodations. No major changes were noted in the age distribution of those taking or passing the GED Tests. (RLC)
