Abstract | The Minnesota plan for industrial technology education provides educators with a coordinated plan for kindergarten through grade 12. Part 1 explains the mission and goals of industrial technology education. It describes the philosophical basis for including the subject matter in school curriculum, the levels of learning, and the reasons supporting them. It also defines a structure of curriculum that responds to educational legislation. Program levels have different program emphases: (1) elementary students develop an awareness of technology; (2) junior high students explore industrial technology; and (3) senior high students become oriented and prepare for a life in a technological society. In part 2, a planning guide enables teachers and administrators to: (1) identify curriculum development procedures strategies; (2) identify teaching strategies; and (3) locate resources and educational aids to supplement curriculum materials. The guide provides a foundation for ideas, suggestions, alternatives, and recommendations. Programs are outlined at all educational levels in communication, energy and power, production, and transportation. (NLA) |
