| Abstract | Private cultural promotion has become a major topic of interest in cultural policy in recent years. Ranging from personal patronage, to salons, to lifestyle promotion, this document is concerned with presenting the great variety of possible fields of activity in private cultural promotion. Divided into eight chapters the topics covered include: (1) introduction; (2) facts on diversity--a few remarks on the extent and the scope of private initiatives; (3) art and industry--a partnership of risk--The Arts Circle of the Federation of German Industries; (4) "Stronger Together?" cultural foundations and relief funds; (5) "grassroot" culture--cultural activities in companies and unions; (6) the media and the culture industry--promotion of culture or reinvestment?; (7) "money in its most beautiful form"--banking and insurance companies as promoters of culture; and (8) embassies without ambassadors--industry's international cultural relations. Four appendices are also included: (1) the economic importance of culture in the Federal Republic of Germany; (2) a survey, "Industry as a Promoter of Culture" 1987; (3) the taxation situation for private cultural promotion and foundations in the Federal Republic of Germany; and (4) a selective bibliography on the promotion of culture in the Federal Republic of Germany.
