| Abstract | The high level of prejudice in an average 9th grade world history class was addressed by the implementation of a custom-designed prejudice reduction program. Lessons were drawn from "The Prejudice Book" (Shiman, 1979); "A World of Difference" (Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith, 1986); and "Hands Across the Campus" (Tiara, 1981). Lessons were selected based on the sensibilities and abilities of the target group. Where possible, lessons from regular world history curricula were incorporated into the practicum topic. Results indicated reduction of prejudice as compared on pre- and posttests. It was concluded that carefully selected prejudice reduction activities and attention to opportunities within the regular curriculum can reduce prejudice. Appendices include sample lessons, surveys, and directions for activities and assignments. Tables provide student data. (Author/DB) |
