Abstract | The purpose of this guide is to explain how to use computers to promote the development of effective learning and thinking skills. The emphasis in this discussion of computer assisted instruction is on the social side of learning rather than the technical aspects of using computers. Chapter titles are: (1) "A Strategies Approach to Effective Learning and Thinking"; (2) "The Role of the Teacher in a Computer Strategies Approach"; (3) "Strategies for Teaching Thinking Skills with Computers"; (4) "Strategies for Teaching Social Skills in the Computer Environment"; (5) "LOGO and the Development of Thinking Skills"; (6) "Adventure Games and Thinking Skills"; (7) "Word Processing and Thinking Skills"; (8) "Computer Communications and the Development of Thinking Skills"; (9) "Databases and Effective Thinking"; and (10) "Spreadsheets as Tools for Thinking."
