Abstract	It is proposed that a general communicative second language syllabus can be adapted for the specific requirements of a second language reading model. This is demonstrated with one model by filling the content, product, and process dimensions with reading-specific elements. Content consists of text type of form (novel, news story, report, etc.), while product corresponds to the learner's needs and learning goals and the various types of text comprehension. Process includes the reading techniques used by a foreign language learner to decode textual information. For illustration, the model is then applied to one text type, the news story (appended) and the method's use in revealing meaning and structure is discussed briefly.
