| Abstract | In 1977, a group of Massachusetts educators and administrators entered an agreement to exchange educational and instructional resources among themselves. This consortium now includes 7 public school systems and 11 agencies within the Greater Boston area, 5 universities, and 4 international schools outside the United States. School of Education students complete field work in a variety of settings offered by the member schools and agencies. Consortium members advise on matters of curriculum reform and performance evaluations, and serve as teaching associates in required courses. Consortium initiatives for children have included after-school enrichment programs, artist-in-residence programs, cultural presentations, and on campus physical education programs. Exchange ventures have brought inner-city and suburban children together. The consortium gives Boston University a genuine laboratory in which to test theory and has given the field members an opportunity to enhance their skills, learn from each other, and work with university faculty in shaping future professionals.
