Abstract | This election-education program is designed to help develop an informed electorate and to instill in future voters an appreciation of the importance of the right to vote. It provides a framework for discussions of the electoral process and gives students an opportunity to face the responsibilities and challenges associated with citizenship and adulthood. Developed for use in junior and senior high schools, the election packet consists of the following materials: (1) outline of procedures--a timetable outlining the steps to be followed in conducting an election; (2) teacher's background information--an explanation of Illinois election laws; (3) detailed procedures--a step-by-step guide for conducting the election activity (the procedures are supplemented with related activities that will give the students an opportunity to expand their knowledge and experience); and (4) appendix--materials simulating actual forms necessary for conducting an election. A form for evaluating the teaching material is included. (AS) |
