AbstractDuring 1987-87 through 1988-89, longitudinal follow-up studies were conducted of the graduates of the teacher education programs at Tennessee Technological University. The sample consisted of 60 first-year teachers who had completed their bachelor's degrees. During 1986-87 the Classroom Observation Keyed for Effectiveness Research was utilized as the primary research instrument. In 1987-88 and again in 1988-89, the Kentucky Observation Instrument was utilized. This document combines the results of these 3 years of activities into one report. The first four chapters center on the follow-up activities that were conducted during the 3-year period. Chapter five examines the relationships between the scores from the American College Test, the Pre-Professional Skills Test, the College Outcomes Measures Project test of the American College Testing Program and the National Teacher Examinations and the overall grade-point-average of the students required to take these tests. The final chapter presents the results of a study of the level of anti-democratic tendencies (authoritarianism) exhibited by groups of beginning teachers who graduated from the Tennessee Tech University teacher education programs.
