AbstractThis report provides highlights of the Job Training Partnership Act (JTPA) in Virginia. An overview details the focus of the report--programs and activities under Title II--and describes program organization and planning. Section II provides an overall picture of JTPA in Virginia. Topics include its funding history, client characteristics, performance measures, participant follow-up, private sector involvement, and Title II-A youth programs. Section III focuses on summer youth programs. Objectives, guidelines, and descriptions are provided for the Private Sector Mentorship Program, Summer Youth Employment and Training Program, Summer Youth Employment and Training Institute, and Remedial Education. Section IV describes Governor's Employment and Training Department (GETD) and Governor's Job Training Coordinating Council (GJTCC) initiatives. Discussion centers on the Reducing Dependency through Training Program; support of literacy efforts of the Virginia Adult Literacy Consortium; services to offenders; the Cities-in-Schools grant; the 1987 Governor's Conference on Employment and Training; regional coordination workshops; and the Unemployment Insurance Data versus Participant Followup. The final section addresses the future roles for the GETD and service delivery areas (SDAs) in welfare reform and aid for dislocated workers. An appendix provides information on Virginia SDAs. (YLB)
