Abstract	Due to increasingly sophisticated military equipment, the Reserve Components of the armed forces need to raise the educational standards for recruits. A number of U.S. educational institutions have responded to their needs for continuing higher education in the areas of job skill enhancement (such as computer operation), regular courses directly corresponding to a military skill (such as licensed practical nursing), and specific military skills for which the college can design special offerings (such as military surveying). Statistics indicate that adult education is best delivered when membership groups are used as the recruiting pool. For members of the reserves, continuing education is a fact of life. It offers the reservist an edge for selection of jobs within the unit and increases the likelihood of promotion. The establishment of the educational goals for reservists has become a call for colleges to enter into closer partnerships with reserve units. An overview of this market's current environment, the range of opportunities available for institutions, and suggestions concerning who and where to make contacts are provided. Three appendices include the following: a brief description of reserve component assistance programs; an extract of FORSCOM/TRADOC Regulation 135-3, United States Army Reserve Forces schools; and a memorandum of agreement between the Tennessee Army National Guard and the State University and Community College System of Tennessee.
