Abstract	This handbook brings together a variety of resources for the implementation of strategies and programs to promote self-esteem in children/students of all ages. The book begins with an explanation of the principles of motivation which facilitate learning, and a discussion of responsibility, structure, motivation, and persistence as functions of emotion. The topics of respect building and self-esteem are examined in the next section, and an outline lists research questions on the social relationships of learning handicapped children. Two self-evaluation instruments are included: one for school staff to analyze upsetting classroom situations, and one for students on accepting responsibility. Conceptual ideas are presented for teachers on the topics of positive language reinforcement, effective communication skills, and use of punishment. Over 15 classroom activities are described for use with students to enhance their self-esteem, build their self-concept, and clarify their values. A list of books and other resource materials concludes the handbook. (JDD)
