| Abstract | Presented are: (1) a review of literature which attempts to define the nature of the adolescent crisis among adopted children; and (2) an attempt to develop a theoretical perspective on adopted adolescents which incorporates a biological-social view of the causes of adolescents' problems. The paper attempts to develop an intervention-guiding model by: (1) analyzing the research on adolescent adjustment among adoptees and adolescents in general; (2) identifying, through a new application of ego analytic theory, the sources of pressure that are unique to adopted adolescents; and (3) positing some social and psychological strategies for minimizing stress created by the identity crisis among adoptees.
