Abstract | This manual is intended to assist managers of Great Britain's Youth Training Scheme (YTS) programs in designing a coherent, integrated training program that is based on training methods that are (1) suited to the individual learning styles of trainees and (2) designed to help students understand the connections between different components of the program. The introductory section defines the term integration, provides a practical example of an integrated job training program, and discusses the issues of relevance and integration. The second section includes a case study of the process of designing an integrated YTS program; discussions of the role of communication and consultation, induction, and core skills; guidelines for planning what is to be done where; and procedures for integrating the planned work experience and off-the-job training components of YTS. Discussed in a section on training methods for integration are the relationship between integration and learning and participative learning in the workplace, off-the-job training, and reviews and consultations on student performance. The final section is a summary guide on the steps to integration. It contains cross-referenced lists of processes and managing agent, tutor, and supervisor roles with respect to the following aspects of YTS: planning, communication, induction, participative learning, review, and consultation. Appendixes include addresses of Manpower Services Commission (MSC) training division area offices and accredited centers and staff training coordinators. (MN) |
