AbstractThe report presents data from 2,043 questionnaires completed by secondary student leaders and high achievers. Ss were selected for recognition in "Who's Who Among American High School Students" by their principals or guidance counselors, national youth organizations, or the publishing company because of high achievement in academics, activities, community service, athletics, or performance in national scholarship or award contests. Tabulations break down responses to 77 questions in terms of sex, race, type of school, and community. In addition to a highlights paper, separate fact sheets focus on analysis of responses on the following topics: dealing with alcohol, drugs, sex, and suicide; support for teacher evaluations to raise national academic achievement; rating of President Reagan's performance in office; and reactions to terrorist acts against Americans. Another fact sheet compares students' responses from 1975 to 1985 on questions concerning sex, drugs, religion, friendship, education, and politics. A summary sheet presents listings of views on education, politics, drugs and alcohol, social issues, and teen suicide. (CL)
