| Abstract | The monograph is intended to help school psychologists understand the special procedures, techniques, and considerations necessary for providing effective courtroom interventions, specifically expert testimony and written reports. Beginning with an explanation of lay and expert witnesses, the monograph goes on to stress the importance of pretrial preparation factors: information gathering; information dissemination; utilization of files, records, and face sheets; legal consultation and preparation; presentation of professional credentials; use of visual aids; courtroom conditioning; and dress and demeanor in court. The direct examination is then described and information provided on the adversarial process, advocacy, and responses to questions. Cross-examination, including common traps used by attorneys, is analyzed Report writing is briefly reviewed in terms of its components and its differences from the traditional psychological report.
