| Abstract | Intended to help students improve their vocabulary and word usage skills, this book of games offers students an opportunity for group interaction and the option of reinforcing skills in an interesting manner. The first part of the book contains ideas for determining and building content vocabulary, using a dictionary, and previewing texts, and also lists commercial games. The second part, Pencil Fun with Words, contains examples of different ways of reinforcing vocabulary skills, such as games involving acronyms, antonym titles, homonyms, palindromes, euphemisms, a vocabulary crossword, and word pictures. Following that are group games for the entire class or for small groups (many of which can be used to reinforce any content area skill), consonant blend tic tac toe, homonym bingo, idiom charades, phonetic bingo, syllable split-up, and wordopoly (a board game). Answer keys for the games and a list of vocabulary resources are included. (EL) |
