Abstract | The purpose of this manual is to provide guidelines for developing and implementing a substitute teacher program for Head Start parents. Designed for Head Start education coordinators, directors, teachers, parent involvement coordinators, policy council members, and parents, the guide offers a step-by-step procedure including a program needs assessment, a sales campaign addressed to agency decision makers, a 60-hour training program and suggestions for setting up the program, substitute employment procedures, and answers to common questions asked by personnel who operate programs. Appended materials include a training schedule for substitute teachers, a sample training time sheet, and a sample certificate to award to individuals completing substitute teacher training. (RH) |
