AbstractFinancial management at colleges and universities is considered in four articles based on presentations to a national conference at the University of Arizona. In "The Revolution in Financial Management in U.S. Higher Education," George Keller discusses changes that affect the administration of finances in academia, including demographic changes, the new place of the United States in the world economic marketplace, technological developments, and the changing structure of higher education. Frederick R. Ford's article, "Administration and Assessment of the Financial Plan," identifies budgetary and nonbudgetary factors that influence final results achieved by an institution, and factors influencing good budget management. William E. Vandament's article, "The Role of Financial Management in Institutional Administration," discusses purposes of financial management and a classification scheme for the sets of activities comprising financial management, along with the integration of financial plans. Finally, in "Recent Research on Incentives in Institutions of Higher Education," Stephen A. Hoenack reviews the research on the use of incentives in colleges and universities, and specifically the use of the responsibility budgeting system at public institutions. (SW)
