Abstract | Intended for junior high and high school English teachers, the articles and features in this journal focus on adolescent literature and the young adult audience. Articles in the journal discuss (1) politics as an emerging topic in young adult novels, (2) teacher attitudes and practices relevant to the use of the young adult novel in secondary school English classrooms, (3) promoting student literary response through literature for young adults, (4) author Kevin Major's experiments in young adult fiction, and (5) the role of literature in students' futures. In addition, the journal contains an essay on teaching students to write by Lee Hindel, the 18-year-old winner of the Avon/Flare young adult novel competition, and an excerpt from his winning novel.
