Abstract | As part of the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Records and Archives Management Program (RAMP), this document presents guidelines for the development of basic training programs and courses in archives administration and records management that are particularly aimed at the training needs of developing countries. Following introductory material, the report provides recommendations covering six areas: (1) infrastructures, or the preconditions and elements of planning for training in archives and records management; (2) institutional factors, including those related to facilities, equipment, financial support, staff, and students; (3) educational factors, including those related to training objectives and target groups; (4) entrance levels for professionals and paraprofessionals; (5) the scope and range of curriculum development in archives and records management, including factors related to core courses, courses in common with related professions, and elective courses; and (6) the construction of specific courses for professionals and paraprofessionals. A summary listing of all the guidelines is also provided, as well as a 64-item bibliography on the planning and construction of a curriculum and teaching program in this area. (ESR) |
