AbstractThe sixth semi-annual report of the Sheldon Jackson College Aquaculture Program covers the period January 1 through June 30, 1977, and summarizes the last half of the second year of operation of the educational program and the entire year for the hatchery. The educational component of the program is described in terms of the academic program, aquaculture staff and students, educational and operational activities, student recruitment, funding sources, advisory services, etc. The hatchery report, which centers around the biological-physical aspects of the salmon hatchery operation and does not elaborate on the student involvement, contains the following: physical facilities expansion from 2 to 10 million alevin capacity to achieve an economically self-sustaining production level; results and data for another successful cycle of salmon egg take, incubation, and fry release, along with information on the year's marking program of pink salmon fry and coho smolts; financial budgets listing income sources and line item expenses for the past year and proposals for the next fiscal year; proposed areas of mutual interest between Alaska Department of Fish and Game and private hatcheries relative to harvest of returning fish and possible biological research; and brief descriptions of some of the initial research projects undertaken by the college.
