| Abstract | The Youth Employment and Demonstration Projects Act of 1977 provided more than two hundred million dollars annually for a range of research, evaluation, and demonstration activities intended to increase understanding of the employment problems of youth and to help determine the most effective policies and programs to address these problems. The broad-ranging activities conducted under this mandate were labeled the youth "knowledge development" effort. This report shows how to review, synthesize, and disseminate information emerging from the knowledge development effort. The report is divided into three parts. The first part defines knowledge development, provides background information about it, and discusses strategy for knowledge dissemination and application. The second part of the paper uses the school-to-work transition as an example of the knowledge development process and explains how to gain knowledge using specific information gathered from school-to-work transition projects. The final part of the report discusses methods of translating information into knowledge and policy. (KC) |
