Abstract	During l978-79, the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) implemented a pilot program to develop a vocational assessment process for handicapped students from secondary special education programs. The evaluation was designed to help students identify their individual interests, skills, and potentials, and thereby plan for realistic careers in which they may most likely succeed. The evaluation also assisted school personnel in determining the most appropriate educational placement for students. The evaluators consisted of technicians, vocational assessment counselors, and special education personnel. Human factor skills, as well as skills of the market place, were measured by norm referenced and criterion referenced assessment devices and by observations. The Multiple Careers Magnet Center (MCMC) was chosen as the site for the Assessment Center. The following were used to develop the vocational assessment process: (1) table of procedures tried out during 1978-79 with 130 secondary handicapped students; (2) findings of a pre-pilot program conducted in 1978 by DISD; (3) recommendations of two university consultants, the DISD Appraisal Subcommittee and the MCMC Advisory Committee; (4) administrative handbook; (5) student handbook; and (6) matrix of all work samples used in developing individual student plans.
