Abstract | Examined are several factors related to regional variations in the number of energy-related scientists and engineers and how this subgroup differs from the base group of scientists and engineers. The emphasis of this research project was to determine the influence of regional differences in industry mix and in staffing patterns within industries upon the number of energy-related scientists and engineers in a region. Sensitivity tests were performed on the 1976 National Science Foundation National Sample data on 50,000 scientists and engineers. Researchers concluded that both industry mix and staffing patterns within industries are important in explaining differences in regional distribution patterns. (Author/WB) |
