Abstract | The third annual report (fiscal year 1979) of the activities carried out under the Veterans' Administration Medical School Assistance and Health Manpower Training Act of 1972 (Public Law 92-541) is presented. Under this special authority grants have been made to assist in the establishment of new state medical schools, to existing medical schools, and to institutions involved in training other professional and technical health personnel. All activities are conducted in affiliation with Veterans' Administration (VA) health care facilities and support the provision of health care to eligible veterans. The following information is presented: legislative provisions, authority for appropriations, appropriations and program implementation, the future of the program, program administration, and the current status of: grants for the establishment of new state medical schools, grants to affiliated medical schools, grants to other health manpower training institutions, and expansion of VA hospital education and training capacity. Charts provide information on grant amounts to medical schools and other facilities, the affiliated VA medical center, the discipline area, and the period of the award. Descriptions of completed grant programs are appended. (SW) |
