Abstract | The Pre-Retirement Rehearsal Project sought to motivate, educate, and guide persons forty-five years of age and older (especially those with limited academic skills) in successful retirement planning. Community awareness of the need for planning was achieved through the opening of a pre-retirement center, design of three brochures, construction and use of a display at conferences and community programs, and various media publicity. Four slide/tape programs were developed on pre-retirement planning and on the project itself. Questionnaires were developed to survey seventy individuals (1) fifty years and more approaching retirement and (2) two to three years after retirement; the survey concerned interests of persons approaching retirement, concerns before and after retirement, and advice from retirees. From this information and previous experience, a course using an assembled package of instructional materials was organized and field tested. A series of booklets and teachers' guides on retirement concerns specifically for individuals with limited academic reading ability and a bibliography were developed (see Note). Pre-retirement seminars and teacher-training workshops were conducted. These project products are appended: outline of a pre-retirement planning seminar; brochures and script of the slide-tape presentation, Introduction to Pre-Retirement Rehearsal Project; and survey forms.
