Abstract | Data on graduate science enrollment and support as of the Fall 1978 is reported. Surveys were sent to 418 schools--285 graduate schools and 133 medical colleges--which included 8,242 graduate departments. After a review of the survey background and the scope, response rates, and imputation effects, Section Two classifies each institution and reporting unit alphabetically by state. The major section presents the statistical tables, divided into two parts. Part A displays all comparable enrollment data from doctorate-granting institutions available for the period 1974 through 1978. Part B provides four special tables--two describe the number and characteristics of graduate departments included in the data tables, a third table ranks institutions in terms of the total graduate science and engineering enrollment in 1978, and the fourth table summarizes the institutional data by field and alphabetically by state. Statistics in Part A are further divided into full- and part-time enrollment, financial support, year in school, and public or private institution. (Author/PHR) |
